BALTIMORE HOMICIDE
On the streets of West Baltimore, the setting for “The Wire”, I discovered an American truth, bitter and desperate. Embedded for over a month in BPD Homicide in the fall of 2000, I found the detectives I photographed bone weary of death, but not as weary as the black men and women trapped in socio-economic quicksand, who were most often both perpetrators and victims of murder. Mostly working the overnight shift, I witnessed the complexities of murder investigations, in which the trail often led towards the drug trade, which had become a cruel substitute to so many for real opportunity.
This work was originally presented to the public in “THIRTEEN: IMAGES OF THE WORLD OF BALTIMORE HOMICIDE”, my 2005 solo show at Opaque Gallery in Manhattan.
